Energy efficiency is one of the biggest home-improvement conversations in Ireland in 2026.
The SEAI introduced a new standalone Windows and Doors Grant this year, with grants of up to €4,000 available for windows depending on property type, as part of a wider push to improve the energy performance and comfort of Irish homes. SEAI reported that 7,000 homeowners had already applied for the windows and doors grant by April 2026.
Of course, blinds aren’t a replacement for proper insulation or high-performing windows. But once the major energy upgrades are done, window coverings can still play an important role in how a room feels throughout the year.
In summer, they can help manage strong sunlight and glare. In winter, suitable lined or thermal window coverings can contribute to a more comfortable room.
For homeowners upgrading an older property, it’s worth thinking about the whole window area — not just the glass itself.
A warmer, more comfortable home isn’t only about what’s inside the walls. The windows matter too.
